Frontiers of Theatre Studies (FTS)  (Print ISSN: 3106-8073; Online ISSN: 3106-8081) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by Hong Kong Information Education Publishing Company Limited. FTS publishes two issues each year in both Chinese and English. The journal is edited by Professor Liu Maosheng of Guangdong University of Foreign StudiesPresident of Drama/Theatre Division,Chinese Association for Comparative Studies of Languages and Cultures


Scope and Topics 

Frontiers of Theatre Studies dedicated to establishing an authoritative academic platform for drama studies within an international framework of cultural exchange and mutual learning, this journal focuses on dialogues between tradition and contemporaneity, as well as the local and the global. It encourages interdisciplinary and cross-media perspectives to explore diverse artistic forms such as drama, film, television, and communication. The journal attends not only to the historical context and classical interpretations of traditional Chinese theater and drama but also to theoretical innovations in theatrical practice and interdisciplinary research within emerging contexts such as artificial intelligence and digital technology. It responds to cutting-edge academic issues and practical challenges in drama studies and interdisciplinary research. Through in-depth explorations of classical dramatic texts from both Chinese and international traditions, as well as practices of cross-cultural interpretation and adaptation, the journal examines creative paradigms and ethical debates in AI-generated scripts, film and television production, and character design. It continues to advance research on new forms of drama driven by digital technology, promoting the expansion of disciplinary boundaries and innovative scholarship.

FTS is a fully open access journal that provides immediate and permanent free access to all published content for all users worldwide without requiring any article processing charges (APCs) or subscription fees. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, allowing unrestricted sharing, distribution, and reuse with proper attribution. Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal publishing rights. We support responsible scholarly sharing by permitting authors to deposit preprints in any repository without embargo and postprints immediately upon publication. This sustainable model maintains the highest standards of peer review and editorial quality while eliminating financial barriers to knowledge dissemination.
