Title: The Evolution and Development Vision of SinoRussian Theatre Exchanges from the Perspective of the Chekhov International Theatre Festival
Abstract: As a highly influential global platform for theatrical exchange, the Chekhov International Theatre Festival has evolved over more than 30 years through three distinct stages: initiation, expansion, and deepening. Its transformation from a local performance event to an international festival has paralleled the progressive development of Sino-Russian theatrical exchanges from limited engagement to in-depth cooperation. This paper examines the evolutionary pathways of Sino-Russian theatrical exchanges: the cooperative model has shifted from one-way learning to two-way interaction and joint creation; participation has evolved from sporadic attendance to concentrated showcase as the Guest of Honour; and the dimensions of exchange have expanded from repertoire performances to joint talent cultivation and institutional cooperation. Building on this analysis, the paper concludes that Chinese theatre should leverage the festival platform to uphold the principle of 'integrity and innovation', continuously advancing in the interpretation of classic works, exploration of experimental new dramas, and integration of traditional art with modern technology to produce higher-quality theatrical works. Furthermore, the study extracts the core operational logic of civilizational mutual learning from Sino-Russian theatrical exchanges: respect for civilizational differences serves as the foundation for equal dialogue, high-quality artistic presentation ensures effective cross-cultural communication, and joint talent cultivation provides sustainable development support. These insights not only provide strategic direction for the future development of Sino-Russian theatre but also offer valuable references for artistic exchanges and equal mutual learning among diverse civilizations.
